Double Standard?

Why is it when an older woman dates or marries a younger man she's called a cougar or puma but when a guy dates a younger woman he's a just a regular guy?

Am I the only one who finds this  double standard interesting?

Now I'm not into dating guys 8 years (or more) younger than me...but still...I don't think women should be called names because they find someone who happens to be younger than they are.

Thoughts?

  2. Really? Are you serious? Remember I'm a blonde so I'll take you seriously ;) Wow. I wonder why we don't hear that more often.

  3. I was just informed recently when I showed up to a H.S. soccer game in a dress and heels. I looked so out of place that immediately I thought of the "cougar/puma" label. So I posted a status update on FB and was told men are called panthers/manthers.

I really think the cougar thing is helping the ladies out. It's saying it's OK for older women to date younger men. The fact is that for years it was kinda frowned on. Because of that many of us have a stigma about dating younger men even if they are the best fit for us. We rule them out on age alone. Just over the last couple of years people are saying that it's actually a "popular" concept. So I don't know...men have done it for years and it was ALWAYS kudos for him. Now I think the world is finally saying...AGE DOESN'T MATTER FOR EITHER GENDER. I mean clearly make sure they are legal ;o)
